First, download the latest 2.x VSIX version of the Configuration Section Designer if you haven't done so already.

Before proceeding with the installation, make sure you close any open Visual Studio instances.

Hi everyone. The project is going strong and several fixes and enhancements for VS2010 have been developed. Once testing confirms that the VS2010 version will not impact other versions of CSD files or encounter stability issues, a compiled VSIX version will be released. This should be done relatively soon. Furthermore, a release to the VS2010 extension gallery is in the works. Stay tuned!

I wonder if this project is now abandoned. It'd be a terrible pity, it's one of the most useful add ons to visual studio I ever had.

I didn't have any luck with it *actually working* in Visual Studio 2010 either, I only figured out how to get the installer from what's here on the website. In particular, I ran into error similar to @jlafay. I have a few projects now where I have to open up Visual Studio 2008 for changes to the designed configuration and simply reference the built dll in my Visual Studio 2010 projects. It is very sub-optimal and I am as interested as anyone in updating this to work ... if I ever find time or had any idea why it doesn't work.

I have the same problem as chjw_ch. I check Tools->Extension Manager and ConfigurationSectionDesigner is definatly there. However I can't open .csd files. It says: There is no editor available for pathtofile.csd
Make sure the application for the file type (.csd) is installed.

I compiled and installed VSIX package successfully, but I cannot find it in the new project dialog, anybody know that?

Never mind. I can't add attributes to an element, right click on the blank designer space, or right click an element. I receive this error in a dialog: "The parameter is incorrect. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070057 (E_INVALIDARG))"

After not successfully getting CSD to install with VS 2010 a month ago, I successfully installed it today per gstarin's instructions. It works beautifully, thanks so much gstarin!

In order to install this to Visual Studio 2010, one must download the source package and build it. Before opening the solution it is necessary to download and install first the Visual Studio 2010 SDK and then the Visual Studio 2010 Visualization & Modeling SDK. Once those are installed, you can open the solution and build it in Release mode. After that, the vsix file will be in the bin/Release folder.

There doesn't appear to be a download package for the 2.x VSIX version of the Configuration Section Designer; where can this be obtained from?

jlafay Jul 16, 2010 at 4:02 AM
The release offered for download doesn't install to VS2010. I'd love to have this but I can't use it, when can I have the 2010 version? I'm surprised more developers aren't asking the same question.

The link to download the 2010 version seems to be broken. Is the 2010 version not available?
